Write the goal in testable language

A goal should be phrased so anyone could verify whether you achieved it. Specificity is the most robust finding in the literature [1].

Write the obstacle honestly

One line naming the real internal barrier. This is the mental-contrasting step that converts wishes into commitment [3][4].

Write at least one if-then plan

‘If [situation], then I will [action].’ Meta-analytic effect on attainment: d = .65 [2].

Consider identity language

Phrasing goals in terms of who you are becoming — ‘I am someone who trains on Tuesdays’ — links the outcome to self-concept. Combine it with the concrete plan rather than using it alone.

Keep it short

A board dense with text stops being a glanceable cue. A few precise lines beat paragraphs.
